Practical Steps To Becoming Successful on The Internet

By

One needs to understand how the internet works. It amazes me how people want to make money on the internet but do not want to learn how to use the internet. If you want to drive, you must learn it, even if not from a formal driving school. You need to read books, read the success stories of other netpreneurs, expose yourself to information that will assist you to achieve your goals online.

You need to find a target market-International or Local. There is nothing wrong with targeting the international market but you need to start with the local market, the experience and skills you gain will assist you when you go international. What this simply means is that, there are two markets; you can focus on the internet. Either the local market or the international market.

You need to find a want. This is the perfect way to start an internet business. You will not need to do much marketing as people will already be yearning for what you intend to offer. Creating a product from guess work could be disastrous. Ask yourself, what do people really need that I can provide on the internet? Find a need or better put find a starving niche market.

Find a starving crowd and you are half way to success. Most people fail online because they first develop a product or a website and then try to find the market for that product or website. But that’s the wrong way of website development. The failure rate may be high if you try to develop the website before finding a market.

It is far better to find a hot market of people willing and ready to buy first, and then sell them products they want to buy.

A Niche is a focus targetable portion of the main market. Under every niche, there is a sub niche. Health is a general niche, while weight loss, quit smoking etc are sub niches of the health niche. For every niche under the sun, there are sub niches. And I tell you, your ability to locate profitable niches will spell the success or otherwise of your internet business.

How To Find a Hot, Starving and Addictive Market

You hang some bait in front of it and see if it bites. But first, you need to do some background research on where the fish is gathered. There are two ways: Primary and Secondary Research. Most internet expert will tell you to go to wordtracker. When you enter a word into the search suggestion tool, it tells you how many people clicked that word. But here is the problem. Most people search for terms when they are looking for free information .Free keywords search suggestion tool is a good tool for secondary searches – i.e when you have decided on the market, so you can use this tool to double check if it really has potential or not.

For the Primary market research:

Here is an easy trick: research magazines. Surf through magazine names. If there are 2-3 similar magazines being published, you have found yourself a hot market. Here is where you can find a list of magazines; http://magazines.com. There are so many but sift through the site and what I always say is that if a publisher brings out money to publish a magazine on a particular topic, which means the topic is a paying one. That is they appreciate information and they are willing to pay for it.

Secondly. Spying on other marketers. Sounds unscrupulous. Many marketers check click bank market place to see what’s selling well. The key is to devise your own unique angle. Some marketers also spy on projects being posted on elance.com.

Thirdly, Go to best sellers list on Amazon. It will give you an idea of the reigning niches at a time. They have a compilation of the set of books that that sell well every month.

Go to http://google.com/hottrends/trend and look for trends that are emerging so you can one of the first to fill a need in a niche.

Look into the article directories to discover what arouses the interest of publishers. Of course, this means more competition, but don’t let that dissuade you because many marketers do it wrong anyway.

Check out the forums because people express their frustrations at forums and come there for solutions. Look through forums, you will see where the shoe pinches for most members and once you have the solution, you can market it to them. The market you want to target will determine the forum you will look at. If you want to target the weight loss market, you have to target the weight loss forums.

Once you have a broad niche, such as Health and Fitness, try to narrow it down even more such as “Managing Your Diabetes” or “Health Care for Pregnant Women”. After you have an idea for a niche, dangle the bait in the virtual waters of articles directories, Web 2.0 sites like Squidoo and see if there are forums where you can begin branding yourself as the go to person in your new niche. What you will be doing at this point is to give out free gifts to get people’s email address. This is called “List Building”. If you have many respondents, know that a market exists there and if not proceed to another market. You should be sure there is a market before you proceed with producing your product.

You have a lot of good ideas here. Finding a hot nitch is not saturated with IM'ers, is the key, along with other aspects. I have read a few things in this article that I can't wait to try.
